About Montenegro
One can be proud of this small Balkan country, whether they were born here or have ever had the chance to experience its beauties. Even without intending to be enchanted, just a few hours will be enough to fall in love with this land, and to leave a piece of yourself behind to which you will return. If you embark on an adventure through Montenegro, you will enter completely unpredictable landscapes, and all the charm lies in those adrenaline jumps that will provide you with the alternation of completely unimaginable views. Such a spectacle for your eyes, according to many, is far from anything that can be seen anywhere else in the world – packaged in such a small space.
Those who have touched many other world-famous destinations speak of Montenegro’s villa beauty, praise it, and return to it to experience it in a new way. And once you come here, you will be frozen between the beauty of the mountains and the sea and the merging of the two into one point.
The diversity of the climate brings new colors to every corner of Montenegro several times a year, so it is not enough to visit it at a certain time. It is necessary to stay there more and more often while nature plays with its face in front of your eyes and almost changes it live. The extremes you will experience there are ranges in which you will immerse yourself and in which even those who arrived without any expectations enjoy.
No matter which starting point you choose, whether you land at Podgorica/Tivat airport or come by sea or land from neighboring countries, you will not go wrong. You can choose the first among equals as the starting point for your journey based on some reasons that are in your favor – and everything else that goes with it is a journey worth improvising.
If you start from the far south, at the very beginning, you will be at a place that deserves the status of a wonder – the Bojana River, which is the only one in the world that flows upstream and downstream depending on the time of year!
Moving on, you will encounter a succession of sandy, rocky, and pebbly beaches often incised into steep ridges that are preserved for those who love to enjoy magical views and sunsets that are a beauty in themselves, whether you enjoy crowds and encounters with other cultures of the world in one place or come for a vacation that you want just for yourself, here you can find absolutely everything, but also something tailored just for you, which would nestle somewhere in between.
Moving towards the central part and the core of the roads that intersect Montenegro, you will be calmed by the beauty of Skadar Lake or left in awe of the Kotor serpentine towards Njeguši, at the foot of Lovćen, another giant that looms grandly over the gentler parts of this Balkan region. From these heights, you will have a clear view of one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and even as you stand there, you will look for other places that can offer you countless new views of this incision of calm sea into the mainland, which is breathtaking.
After you quench your thirst for these landscapes, you will be greeted by the capital city – Podgorica, from where various opportunities to be thrilled diverge. Fans of a slower way of life will enjoy the pit stop they can make here, and then continue their adventure with completely refreshed energy. Certainly, there is no road that is more beautiful to travel because it is difficult to single out the beauty that is better than the other – but we recommend a circle that will include the canyon of the Moraca and Tara rivers, as well as the road towards Zabljak via Niksic. Right there, you will easily be drawn to the story of the famous Ostrog Monastery, so we cannot guarantee that you will not change your route for a few hours to admire this building. Whichever way you choose, your desire to visit the Tara Bridge, the pinnacle of architectural skills of the era in which it was built, will lead you, connecting the gorges that until then seemed insurmountable. The Tara River flows under this bridge, and the length of the magnificent canyon has only been surpassed in the world by the Colorado Canyon. If you are not afraid of heights or are working to overcome your existing fear, here you can choose the safest and most exciting way – the longest ZIP LINE in Europe. You will conquer a kilometer-long cable in less than a minute – but the feeling you will gain here will keep you for several days. Near the bridge itself is one of the shortest rivers in the world, whose name speaks of the power with which it fills the tear of Europe. Gathering strength from underground waters, it begins its performance at about 700 meters above sea level where it penetrates the surface, and then in just 150 meters of foamy and strong flow, it shows the power of one of the most attractive watercourses on our continent, as well as in all others. With the nickname “Mountain Eyes,” Black Lake is one of the symbols, not only of the north but of Montenegro as a whole and an essential resting place for anyone who approaches it. If you opt for more active options, you can view it from one of the peaks of Durmitor or simply by the most prevalent way, through the forest and officially entering the Durmitor National Park after passing through the center of Zabljak. After getting rid of any means of transportation, the best feeling of tension you will feel is walking through the dense pine forest. In just a few hundred meters, you are in one of those places where, in the surge of excitement, you cover your face with your hands and get lost in the endless beauty that you can enjoy regardless of the time of day, year, or life.
Located within four national parks, Montenegro is enriched with mountains and lakes that are often talked about, but for which no one has ever managed to say enough. Many photographers and filmmakers have stopped here, whose works travel the world, but despite their desire to faithfully represent what they see, they are far from what the depth of the human eye can record. If what you see on the spot travels to your soul, be sure that much of it will settle there.
We also leave you with the desire to visit both closer and farther places in the country – to visit the glacial Visitor Lake known for its “floating” island or to fall asleep under the slopes of Hajla, which until recently was one of the best-kept secrets for all mountaineers who visit Montenegro.
Those who are attracted to architecture will wander to all points on the map and experience the history that was fought in Montenegro, starting from the remains of previous rulers, all the way to the grace shared along the coast where the best-preserved old towns are located, and from where stories reach back to centuries before the new era.
